Gbajabiamila, Finance Minister Push for Completion of Legislative Institute
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, on Friday, inspected the permanent site of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
Both Gbajabiamila and Ahmed expressed satisfaction at the quality and level of work done so far and pledged to work to ensure the speedy completion of the project.
The NILDS’ office project which is located along the Airport Road, is already 95% complete, according to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Speaking to reporters on his observations after a guided tour of the site, Gbajabiamila said: “Clearly, if what I have seen is what everybody has seen, this is an iconic structure and a convention centre with facilities of world class standard.
“It is 95 percent completed from what I see and I am here with the Honourable Minister of Finance who signs the cheques to try and see if we can complete it.
The facilities we saw are very impressive;It is good for Abuja,It is good for Nigeria and it is good for the Institute.
“You’ve got library halls, 1,000 seater auditoriums and several other things that will be required for this Institute for Legislative Studies to actualize its mandate successfully.”
On how soon the project will be completed, Gbajabiamila said: “Before you know it, it will be completed. I cannot give you a date.”
On her part, Ahmed said: “What we have seen today is very impressive. This is an edifice that will house an Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies with an electronic library, state of the art auditoriums, several meeting rooms and so on.
“It is a place to come for events, not just for the legislature but also for democratiuc institutions and research persons within and outside of Nigeria.
“We will try our best to make sure that this place is quickly completed and put to use so that the investments that have been made here can actually have the impact for which it was designed.”
The Director General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar O. Sulaiman and other top management staff of the Institute also took part in the tour.
