Covid-19: NILDS' Web Conferencing Leads Conversation on the Impact of Pandemic in Kano State

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS brought together stakeholders to discuss the matters arising with regards to the impact of Covid-19 in Kano State, Nigeria.

During the 2-hour web conferencing on Wednesday, 17th June, 2020, the Kano State Commissioner for health Dr. Kabiru Getso has called on citizens to adhere strictly to Covid-19 preventive guidelines, to achieve success in the fight against the pandemic.The Commissioner maintained that lack of citizens trust on government activities coupled with poor adherence to WHO, preventive guidelines contributed immensely to the challenges faced in the fight against the virus in the state.

Dr. Getso, explained that the Government had taken several steps, such as inauguration of Task force and testing centers, enforcement of dusk to dawn curfew, aggressive sensitization of public among others, to ensure that the fight against the Covid-19 was achieved in the state.

The Executive Director, Center for Information Technology and Development, CITAD, Dr. Yunusa Ya’u, said there was need to develop a framework that would bridge communication gap in the state, as well as beef up border security.

The Director Democratic Studies, National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies, Dr. Adewale Aderemi, who also represented the Director General at the Zoom session said the meeting was organized to assess the impact of the pandemic in the state and measures taken by the Government to contain its spread.
He further informed that the Institute will continue such online engagements, as way of contributing its quota to the advancement of democratic governance in the country.
