DG NILDS Inaugurates Staff Audit Committee
A Committee for the review of the National institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS Staff Records of Service was inaugurated by the Director General, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman yesterday.
At a formal ceremony, Prof Sulaiman noted that as a capacity building institution with national and international aspirations, such an exercise would help elicit public confidence in the credibility and integrity of its workforce. He stated that the objective of the exercise, which he emphasized was in line with world acceptable practices in academic institutions was to ensure that only the best hands are retained to reposition the Institute for better and more efficient service delivery.
The 5-member Committee, which has Prof. Kayode Omole as Chairman, has the mandate to conduct comprehensive review of staff claims, credentials, scrutinize letters of appointment as well as documentation of cases of irregular appointment and questionable credentials.
In his response, the Chairman and Former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Kayode Omole observed that quality regulation mechanisms for personnel within any organization are essential for institutional stability and quality control. He expressed optimism that the report of the Committee would not only justify the confidence reposed on the audit committee, but greatly contribute to institutional integrity and national advancement.
The Committee which has 6 weeks to submit its report is made up of membership, drawn from relevant institutional organizations. The National institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies has witnessed some significant policy reforms in the last 4 months.
