NILDS, ESTABLISHED TO FOSTER NATIONAL UNITY- DIRECTOR GENERAL
The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar .O. Sulaiman informed that the Institute was established with the aim of cementing regional and ethnic divide which over the years has engendered mistrust and suspicion among political actors in the country. Speaking on Monday, January 27, 2020, to the National Association of Political Science Students from the Federal University of Oye Ekiti in Ekiti State, who visited the Institute on educational platform and also to gain practical knowledge of the role of research in democratic governance and development. The DG, a Professor of Political Science gave the historical background of Nigeria’s politics, military incursions, its adverse effect on democratic institutions in Nigeria; an aberration, which he said only Institutions like NILDS could mend.
He informed that NILDS can boast of over 30 doctorate degree holders drawn from diverse disciplines, who are painstakingly working to proffer solutions through research panacea to some of the nation’s challenges.
