The 4-year collaboration between the largest television network in Africa, the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA and Africa’s foremost capacity development Institute on democratic studies, the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, enters a new phase as plans are underway for the actualization of LIVE transmission of the Finals of 2020 edition of NILDS/FCT Senior Secondary Schools Quiz Competition in the Federal Capital Territory.

The indication was the fallout of a meeting between the Director General, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar, Olanrewaju Sulaiman and the DG, NTA, Mallam Ibn Mohammed on how to strengthen the synergy between the two organizations.
The meeting which was at the instance of Prof. Sulaiman, as part of his initiative for focused critical engagement of all relevant stakeholders on how to reposition NILDS for greater impact on Nigeria’s 20 years democratic experience, provided a unique platform for closer appraisal by both Chief Executive Officers on the complementary roles of both agencies of the Federal government.

Speaking on the symbiotic relationship between both organizations, Prof. Sulaiman acknowledged the critical role of NTA as a content producer and a channel for enlightenment and mass public education, assured that, NILDS will continue to promote advocacy for peace, civic and public education, culture of non-violence in the electoral process, especially at the grassroots, good governance and consolidation of Nigeria’ democracy.

While acknowledging that the Implementation of the previous editions of NILDS- FCT Senior Secondary Schools Quiz Competition would not have been successful without the critical partnership of the NTA, he solicited the network’s support for LIVE transmission of the 2020 edition of the competition, billed to take place on the 14th and 28th of January 2020.

Mallam Ibn Muhammed, while lauding Prof. Sulaiman for his contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria as a former Minister of National Planning, a scholar and now Director General, NILDS, observed that by the Act establishing the NTA, the network is mandated and obliged to propagate the ideas, policies and visions of the various agencies of government.

While commending NILDS for readily providing content for the NTA, he noted that the visibility of an organization is more dependent on what the Institution does, by way of programmes and activities, rather than what the media organization does.
