The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Ladi Hamalai, on Thursday, 29th November, 2018 paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Mallam Yakubu Ib’n Muhammed and the leadership of the pioneer broadcasting establishment in Nigeria.
Prof. Hamalai said the visit was to solicit the support and collaboration of the NTA in delivering some of the mandates of the Institute, especially the annual quiz competition for secondary schools on the legislature and democracy and sensitization on voters’ turnout in the 2019 general elections and subsequent elections.
“As the knowledge management hub and capacity development Institute for the Legislature in Nigeria and the African region, our mandate will get the publicity it deserves if we get the cooperation and support of the Nigerian Television Authority. That is why I’m here today; to extend a hand of friendship; to solicit for the collaboration of the NTA”.
She continued: “NTA has been very supportive of the Institute and its vision, exhibited in the coverage of our programmes and activities; for this, we are grateful.”
Prof. Hamalai informed the NTA Management that the Institute will carry out the 4th edition of its FCT Quiz on the Legislature and Democracy in January, 2019, the activity, she said has gone a long way in instilling the knowledge of the legislature in secondary school students.
She further informed that efforts are ongoing to incorporate subjects on the legislature in the schools’ curriculum which will in no doubt hone the understanding of students as future leaders.
Hamalai invited the NTA to collaborate with the Institute in organizing a successful Quiz in 2019 and also a sensitization Hangout with social media influencers on Early Voting and Voters’ Turnout in Nigeria’s Elections.
In his response, the Director General of the NTA, Yakubu Ib’n Muhammed said that the mandate of the NTA ensures that programmes geared towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people are given prominence on their channels. He assured that the NTA will support the Institute’s activities which he believes will do well in advancing the nation’s integrity.
