NILDS Scores A Hat Trick As It Concludes Zonal Competition of the Third Edition Of Quiz on the Legislature

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) is catching them young and inculcating the knowledge of the Legislature and Democracy among secondary school students through its Quiz Competition on the Legislature and Democracy. The programme which is not only fast
gaining popularity but also discovering brains that can match other protégés on international stage.

The 2018 zonal edition of the competition, its third outing took place on 23rd of May across the 8 zones
of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja with participation from about 80 Schools.

Though the students displayed brilliance and poise across all the zones with notable fierceness in
Competitive spirit, a winner was drawn from each zone to compete at the final lap coming up on 28th of June 2018 during the National Assembly Open Week event at the National Assembly Complex.

After a formidable competition among 11 schools at the AMAC Central zone, Olumawu School, Wuse 2 took the 1st position, GSS Gwarimpa Estate took the 2nd position while GSS, Life Camp came 3rd.

The AMAC North zone where 11 schools participated produced GDSS Wuse 2 as winner while GSS, Wuse Zone 3 came 2nd and GSS Apo took the 3rd position.

Gwagwalada zone where 8 schools participated produced the GSS Kuje as winner, GSS Gawu took the 2nd position and GSS Zuba came 3rd.

At Abaji Zone, Four schools took part in the quiz competition where GSS Kwaku took the 1st position, GDSS Abaji came 2nd and GSS Gudun Karya took the 3rd position.

In Bwari Zone with 11 participating schools, GSS, Shere came 1st, GSS Kubwa came 2nd and Lord’s Will Academy resigned to the will of God as the 3rd place bearer.

In AMAC East, with Ten participating schools, GSS Karshi took the 1st position, GSS Nyanya came 2nd while the 3rd position was clichéd by City Royal Secondary School, Nyanya.

In Kwali zone, the 1st position was clitched by GSS, Dobi, 2nd position taken by GSS Dukpa while the 3rd position went to the Gifted School, Gwagwalada.

In Kuje zone, GSS Gosa showed supremacy by having the 1st position, GSS Lugbe trailed behind them in the 2nd position while the 3rd position was taken by GSS Pegi.

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies has not only fulfilled its enabling act, Section 3 Paragraph H to develop a training curriculum for schools and tertiary institutions on democracy, legislative practice and procedure, political culture and development but has on another hand facilitated public education on the values of Democracy and the Legislature which would go a long way to improve public knowledge of legislative practice and democracy.

When interviewed at the end of the competition, some of the students said the competition has helped to sensitize and create awareness in secondary schools on the importance of the legislature and democracy; others extolled the initiative which they confirmed has deepened their interest in the lawmaking arm of government.

The final leg of the 2018 NILDS FCT Secondary Schools Quiz Competition on the Legislature and Democracy will take place at the National Assembly Complex House of Representatives Auditorium during the National Assembly Open week in July, 2018.
