The Director General of National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) Prof. Ladi Hamalai has promised that the Institute will provide the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission with the requisite technical training that would make them more efficient in line with World best legislative practices and improve their bureaucratic service to the state legislature.

The Director General stated this while receiving the Chairman and Staff of the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission in Abuja. She noted that the staff of the State Houses of Assembly Service Commissions play very critical role in ensuring optimum and effective performance of the legislature. As a result, there is the need to avail themselves of the new dynamics and trends in Parliamentary administration through the various programmes of the National Institute for Legislative Studies.

“The work of the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission is key to the development of the Parliament. Giving the unique roles the various staff play, there is need for continuous education with NILS, as you can only get these technical knowledge from the institute and no other institution of learning in the country”.

Prof. Hamalai urged the Commission to take advantage of the different offerings by NILS for its Committee Clerks, Legislative Drafters and general management. The courses include –the University of Benin Post Graduate programmes – Masters in Parliamentary Administration, Masters in Legislative Studies and Masters in Legislative Drafting, the short-term executive courses, and NILS on-line Post Graduate Diploma programmes which is expected to come on stream this year.

“For a Service Commission, there is need for induction programmes to acquaint your staff with Parliamentary work that would make them provide specialized administrative services to the legislature” she added..

She also promised to facilitate the revitalization of the National Assembly Service Commission Conferences with State House of Assembly Service Commissions which for some years now has remained inactive.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission Mr Ben Hel had sought the Institutes collaboration and guide.

The meeting was attended by both the management team of NILS and the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission.
