Purpose/Objective
"This 2014 Revised Practical Guide on Legislative Drafting is published by the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) in fulfillment of its mandate to provide capacity building for legislators and legislative support staff. This mandate is clearly expressed by a combined reading of the provisions of section 2 (g) and 3 (d) of the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) Act, 2011. The booklet is meant to improve the technical capacity of legislative staff, committee secretaries and political aides to develop policies and translate such into legislation. It is also intended to encourage legislative drafting courses in tertiary institutions in Nigeria and beyond. Additionally, this manual serves as a course guide book for the students of the NILS/University of Benin Masters in Legislative Drafting programme that commenced during the year 2014"- page (v) of the book

Gaps Identified
The gaps that were identified within this text and how the recommended remedies are identified seriatim below: ERRATA
1. At the inner cover page instead of NILS claiming sole copyright thus: "2014 Published by National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS)" NILS ought to acknowledge thus: "first published 2006 Policy Analysis and Research Project (PARP) by Dr. Sylvester Shykill, Practical Guide on Legislative Drafting (Abuja, PARP, 2006). PARP is the successor of NILS and owner of all its copyrights".
2. Page 1-there ought to be an addition of the word "science" to the statement: "Legislative Drafting is an art..." should now read as: "Legislative Drafting is an art and science...". This is because legislative drafting is regarded as a Page 3-addition of the words in bracket) to the previous statement: "The purpose combination of both an art and a science.
3. of this Revised Practical Guide on Legislative Drafting is to provide for the rearrangement of the contents of the first edition (Dr. Sylvester Shykill, Practical Guide on Legislative Drafting (Abuja, PARP, 2006) and to also introduce the reader to the other areas of importance in legislative drafting which was not covered in the first edition with a view to expose the reader to the dynamics of legislative drafting"

Recommendations
It is recommended the original authors of this Revised Edition who are still members of staff of NILDS should undertake revision to bring this publication up-to-date
